National Junior Convention
The 2018 National Junior Holstein Convention will kick off Friday, June 29th at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa just outside of Traverse City, Michigan. Located in the Northwest corner of Michigan's lower peninsula where you will soon discover why this region is a summertime destination for many. Beautiful rolling hills, orchards and vineyards flank the Grand Traverse Bay. The convention hotel is nestled into 900 acres that boast 3 tough golf courses. With the exception of the tours, all activities will take place at the hotel.
Traverse City's Cherry Capital Airport is located just six miles from the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, which is served by major carriers. For guests who are flying, complimentary Airport Shuttle service is available to and from the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

The first night begins with Dairy Jeopardy orientation, followed by a dairy promotion workshop. Then set your sails for adventure with an exciting mix of fun and games and dancing at the Welcome Ashore! event.

Saturday morning, the Jeopardy competition and the Prepared Public Speaking Contest are in full swing. Folding Displays, DJM books and Scrapbooks will also be on display.
Following the day's competitions, mingle and highlight your state at the Junior Mixer & Dance Saturday evening. Those in attendance will each get a t-shirt and highlighter with the mission to sign as many shirts as they can. States will also present their banners and distribute the items they brought for the mixer exchange. Dinner will be provided as well as a fun line dance instructor and DJ Mikey for an energy packed night!

Sunday features host day where several tour options are available: Leelanau Peninsula Tour & Tall Ship Excursion, Leelanau Peninsula & Catamaran Cruise, Sleeping Bear Dunes Sightseeing & Activities Tour, Float Platte River & Sleeping Bear Dunes Tour and Farm Tours.
The evening concludes with a Holstein Block party at the convention hotel featuring dueling pianos, outdoor inflatables and games. Fun will be had in the bouncy house, climbing the rock wall, getting stuck to the Velcro wall, making your way through an obstacle course or joining in the bubble soccer game or cornhole tournament. There will also be a special appearance from Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsay Tarpley. This family event offers something for everyone and a chance to reconnect with Holstein friends.

Monday morning brings the highly competitive Dairy Bowl competition. Watch youth utilize their critical thinking skills, while competing for a spot in the Dairy Bowl finals.
New to the schedule of opportunity is a career focused lunch and career fair – Cows 2 Careers. During lunch, enjoy a high energy, talk show style program covering the hot button issues for the millennial population heading into the workforce. Listen to dynamic discussion amongst professional hiring managers and dairy business operators about how they search for, interview, and train the right candidates for the job. Information will be shared about schooling options, entrepreneurial resources, and more to help passionate dairy youth find their path from the dairy cow to a dairy career. The event will be complete with a career fair style mini trade show following lunch, from 1 to 3 p.m. Schools and agribusinesses will be eager to critique resumes, share internship information, and answer questions from youth.
Monday afternoon welcomes the National Convention Sale. Sale cattle will be housed onsite for the duration of the convention. The sale and pre-sale meal will be held inside the hotel. Juniors are invited to take-in the sale and then relax at the Treasure Island Poolside Party just feet away from the sale. Dance the night away, play in the pool and collect loot from the treasure chests. No ticket is required for the poolside party. We hope many juniors will take in the opportunity to participate in the sale festivities as well as the pool party.
Tuesday, July 3 - Finals, Forum & Banquet Day

The convention concludes Tuesday with the top Dairy Bowl teams in each division competing in the finals, followed by the Junior Forum and the Junior Awards Banquet. The banquet will honor youth for their accomplishments throughout the week as well as the year.
Then bid farewell to your fellow Holstein members with a sunset party on Grand Traverse Resort's private beach. Challenge your friends to a game of beach volleyball or swim in the outdoor pool. Cap off your week with a dance at the beach and bonfire fun.
